Ty Hardin
1930-2017
Reel Cowboys Lifetime Member

Ty Hardin | 1930-2017 | Rest in PeaceOrison Whipple Hungerford Jr., known as Ty Hardin, was an American actor that was most known for his role on the 1958- 1962 television series, Bronco. He was born in New York, but he was raised in Texas. As a growing boy, his grandmother
nicknamed him "Ty" because he was as active as a "Texas
typhoon".

Ty served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was commissioned after attending Officer Candidate School in Fort
Monmouth, New Jersey, and became a pilot (Forward Observer) of a O-1 Bird Dog Liaison aircraft. He attained the rank of first lieutenant.

He got his big break playing the part of Bronco Layne in the TV series, Bronco, but he also worked other television shows, such as: Maverick, Sugarfoot, and Riptide. In addition to his fantastic work on TV, he also played many roles in movies, such as Merrill's Marauders, Last Train From Gun Hill, Man of Cursed Valley, Custer of the West, Acquasanta Joe, Red River, The Last Rebel, PT 109, and many others.

Ty received a Silver Spur Award from the Reel Cowboys in 2009. We will miss this fine man.
